We’re sponsoring our 3rd Clinic/Match on 13 APR 08. The flyer is posted below.
We reduced the price to $15.00 Adults/$5.00 kids and $5.00 for any additional targets/guns.
We are planning on using the indoor range unless the Michigan weather finally really breaks and spring shows up. Currently we are planning a 1/2 match but if we move outside it’ll probably go to a full match as we have more firing points.
Our last event in March went very well. We had 18 participants, mostly Father’s and sons. It was great to see it turn ito a Family event. That has been our desire all along. Even better was a number of the kids showed up with old Mossbergs that belong to their Grandfathers! 42m’s and 46M’s that were in great shape. If you are in the area please come and join us. The classroom portion will be at the Howell National Guard Armory and the match will just a few minutes away at the club.
Additionally we are setting up a challenge between the Recruiting Offices in town and the it’ll be Army vs Marines vs navy. Go Army!!
Here are the results and a report on the match /event.

The Howell Gun Club is is happy to announce that the Scholastic Clay Target Program is up and running again this year. The club is looking for enthusuastic young shooters who are interested in learning or refining their trapshooting skills. There is no experience necessary to participate in this program. The group meets on Tuesday evenings at the club from 5:30 until 8:30 or 9:00. To help with the tutoring process, the trap ranges are closed to all other shooters during the Tuesday evening sessions. Parental or responsible adult supervision is required for all shooters present. Responsible adults are required to remain within visual and speaking distance of their child at all times. No responsible adult = no shooting for that child. The club has a perfect safety record and tight parental supervision is a great way of insuring it remains perfect as well as giving the child moral support. All students will receive individualized attention as needed and will be taught the fundimentals of gun safety, proper trapshooting etiquette and trap shooting by experienced certified trap instructors. The youth rate per round of trap is $2 for 25 targets. Loaner shotguns are normally available for those who do not have their own. Ammunition is also available for purchase at the club at local prices. If you know of any boys or girls that may be interested, please have them contact Trap Chairman Jim Delaney at 517-404-4546 for more information.

This has been a very successful community event promoting the shooting sports to women. The club hosts up to 104 ladies from 8 a.m. to about 3 p.m. Each of them are introduced to firearms handling and safety followed by rotating through the different ranges of the club to experience trap, skeet, .22 handgun, black powder, .22 rifle and then have the option to try a larger caliber handgun if they choose. All of this is done in squads of 8 ladies with one on one instruction.
Each year 60 club members have stepped up to provide this training, many returning year after year as it is “such a great time for everyone.” A lot of positive feedback from the participants has been received that day as well as with letters to the newspaper and letters/emails to the club. The NRA has told us that it is one of the biggest in the country.
So, WE NEED YOU! There are many areas in which we need help to put on such a clinic. Most is done that day but we also need help before hand. It is an easy and fun way for new members to get their work hours completed. All you need do is sign up in the clubhouse or contact Eliisa Seigle wothgc@sbcglobal.net and ask “What can I do to help?” and you’ll be put to work. Here’s a list of what is needed:
PRIOR TO JUNE 14
– help us get sponsors to supply door prizes, ammo, targets, etc. (we
have a sponsor letter prepared for you to use)
– help with getting the clubhouse and grounds cleaned up and the
ranges and targets ready the week prior
– help put together the goodie bags from the NRA
DAY OF THE CLINIC
– help with food preparation, set up, serving, clean up
– registration help (sign in, pass out goodie bags, nametags)
– instructor/coaches for each discipline
– squad leaders (ladies, you could be a squad leader as well as shoot
with your squad if you let Eliisa know)
– donate ammo (we need 5000 .22 cal. bullets as well as a bunch of
9mm, 45 cal. and lots of 12 g. and 20 g. shotgun shells), donate
targets, door prizes
Please consider making a donation to this event.
WE ARE APPLYING FOR GRANT FUNDING. TO SUPPORT OUR GRANT
FUNDING, WE NEED YOUR RECEIPTS FOR ALL AMMUNITION AND TARGET MATERIAL PURCHASES. Please retain your receipts and turn them in to Eliisa
Seigle. Note that this does NOT mean that your generous donation will be
reimbursed – what it means is that grant funding can be obtained which will
then offset some of the other costs of the event.’
