Indoor / Outdoor Pistol Ranges and Rules

Howell gun club members that want to use the indoor range, during non-public shooting hours need to contact the Pistol Chairman pistol@howellgunclub.org to be given a facilities orientation, you will be shown how to operate the range equipment and review the indoor range rules. Once completed, you will be given the combination to the indoor range so that you may access the range at any time during regular club shooting hours, 9 am to 9 pm, seven days a week. Be sure to check the club calendar before you head out to the club for range closers.


Indoor Pistol

The Howell Gun Club has two pistol ranges for our club members to enjoy using. Our 10-meter outdoor range hosts covered shooting stations and a retrievable target system. The 10-meter range can also be used by rifle shooters (Pistol Caliber ONLY) and is open 7 days a week. The outdoor ranges may be used by all members and up to three of their guests. Guests pay a $5.00 fee for the day which allows them use of all outdoor ranges when accompanied by a member.

Our indoor 50-foot range is open year round to members and their guests, The indoor range may be used with most handgun rounds as well as .22 cal rifle and some carbines.

Indoor Range Rules

The indoor range is open to members and guests for a fee of $3.00 for members and $5.00 for guests. Targets are included with your range fees. The indoor range is also open to the public on Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and on Sundays from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The cost for the public to shoot is $5.00 per person. A Range Safety Officer (RSO) will be on duty during all public shooting times to manage the shooters and range.

Shooting hours for the club are outdoor, ranges 9 am to 9 pm or sunset, whichever occurs first, indoor ranges from 9 am to 9 pm. Please contact the Pistol Director for any questions at pistol@howellgunclub.org.

Indoor Range Rules

  1. Facility orientation, Members must receive facility orientation to use the indoor range, Contact the pistol chair to take orientation.
  2. Sign-In, All Shooters, Family members, Guests and Spectators, must sign the log book in the indoor range.
  3. Ear & Eye, everyone must wear ear and eye protection during live fire.
  4. Targets, Only use hanging target backers to attach your targets to, all shooting must be done from the stalls. No large target backers are to be used at the 12ft line.
  5. Ammunition, consult indoor range calibers allowed list to see what cartridges areallowed, for use in the Indoor Range, and for what ammunition and firearms are restricted.
  6. NO Children less than 10 years of age, in the indoor range, also all minors must be accompanied and supervised by a Parent or Legal Guardian, at all times. Minors shoot free on the same lane with Parent or Legal Guardian.
  7. A loaded firearm Never! Leaves the shooting stall
  8. Absolutely NO, handling of firearms when people are down range. Firearms must be Unloaded, magazines removed,and actions open and lying on the table or cased no exceptions.
  9. Absolutely NO, cross lane shooting( example you are in stall 5, do not shot at targets in lane 4or 6), also when shooting targets side by side on the same backer board try to always, square yourself to the target you are shooting at.
  10. Using the Range, turn on lights, when you are ready to shoot turn on ventilation system, it must be on during all shooting activities.
  11. Shooting, you must use the stall’s to shoot from, close safety chain when ready to fire, step all the way up to the counter in the stall and extend your arms fully into the range when you a ready to discharge your firearm. ( see general range rules for commands and other procedures)
  12. Clean up, pick up spent brass and put it in the brass bucket, pull targets off backer before you put it back in storage, sweep floor use Kleen-Sweep (run ventilation system when sweeping)
  13. Closing the Range, make sure you clean up, turn off the ventilation system and all lights, and lock up when you leave.
  14. Run Fan, for one minute before going down range, to clear contaminates.
  15. Payment, put your range fees in provided envelope and deposit in cash box.
