100yd to 300yd Range

100 to 300 yds range to be expanded to 50 yds

300 yard range certification:

Overview:

This certification is to ensure all range users are on target with their first shots, thus minimizing the number of rounds needed to get on target. The certification will be performed on the 100 yard range.

Requirements:

All members who desire to obtain their 300 yard range certification will be required to perform the following:

  1. You must contact the current rifle chairman to schedule the certification at rifle@howellgunclub.org. Certification dates will be posted on the clubs calendar.
  2. You must bring the following items to the 100 yard range:
    1. The rifle you intend to use on the 300 yard range.
    2. 10 to 20 rounds of ammunition suitable for the rifle being used.
    3. Front and rear rest or sandbags.
    4. Targets large enough to be seen well at 100 yards.
Course of fire:

You will be asked to fire a 3 round group with a 100 yard point blank zero. Then you will make a 5 MOA upward adjustment to your sights. What we will be looking for is two nice, but separate groups centered on the target with a 5” spacing between the groups. The 5 MOA upward adjustments are the amount of correction needed to safely go from shooting 100yds to 300yds with most standard rifle cartridges. If the requirements are not met on the first try, you will be given one more opportunity; this is why you should bring some extra ammunition with you. If you cannot meet these requirements within two attempts, a 300-yard range certification will not be given to you.

Suggestions:

Have your rifle already sighted in at 100 yards and practice the course of fire before going to the certification. This preparation will minimize the amount of time needed to complete the course of fire. Please remember, that the rifle chairman is taking time out of their schedule to perform the certification.

If you have any questions, please contact the Rifle Chairman at rifle@howellgunclub.org.
